Above: British dance-rock quartet Fenech-Soler are spending a good chunk of the month in L.A. promoting their new album “Rituals.” (That’s the video for “Last Forever,” above.) It’s a odd combo, but Fenech-Soler are sharing the Monday residency at the Echo this month with local indie-rockers Soft Swells, whose new album “Floodlights” comes out Sept. 30. Fenech-Soler is also playing the Sunset Strip Music Festival in two weeks.
Our staff picks of the week:
@KRBronson recommends: Enjoy some free music Saturday. If you’re on the Westside, orchestral rockers Kan Wakan are doing Saturdays Off the 405 at the Getty Center. The show will feature guests Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, the Silver Lake Choir and Strings Massive, and it will mark the L.A. debut of the band’s new vocalist KP, who replaced the recently departed Kristianne Bautista. If you’re on the other side of town, the free, all-ages Chinatown Moon Festival boasts a six-band lineup of Crash Kings, Dorothy, Beat Club, SD3 (Cary Brothers’ side project), the Singles and Run Things.
@Seraphina_L recommends: If you think September is turning out to be a busy month for shows, just wait until you Rocktober arrives. For now, there are plenty of shows to get you warmed up for fall tours. Owen Pallett stops by the El Rey Theatre on Saturday in support of not only his latest album “In Conflict,” but also his series of remixes for his latest single “Song For Five & Six.” Long Beach’s own Avi Buffalo supports in anticipation of his long-awaited sophomore album “At Best Cuckold.” A great follow-up show would be at the Shrine Auditorium where the Avett Brothers and Dawes team up on Sunday. .
