Dream Boys, the jangle-pop quartet of Scotsman Wallace Meek and his American buddies Wayne Faler, Will Ivy and Mike La Franchi, immediately won our hearts with last year’s self-titled debut, and it sounds as if they’ll continue to build on the Sarah Records sound with their new 7-inch. Teaming with producer Lewis Pesacov, who has worked with artists such as Best Coast and FIDLAR (and most recently GNLTMN, Valley Queen, HOTT MT, Line & Circle, Run Things, Incan Abraham), Dream Boys stay true to their name, churning out another stellar dream-pop track for the record’s A-side. “Positive Arguments,” a song that cheekily references German philosopher Theodor Adorno (“Heavens forgive me / I’m Adorno’s puppet”), picks up where our last C86 compilation left off, with swirling guitars and reverb propelling listeners to a sonic happy place. Fusing a little SoCal sunshine into the Paisley Underground elements, Dream Boys have earned yet another spot next to those Teenage Fanclub and the La’s records. With “Postcard” as its B-side, the quartet’s “Positive Arguments” 7-inch is slated for a Sept. 30 release via White Iris.
