I received a lot of music in 2009 – somewhere around 400 physical and digital submissions from SoCal artists alone, not counting those short “check-these-guys-out-on-MySpace” missives that flood my mailbox. At least, that was the music that got at least a cursory listen. By the time I did a Thanksgiving week inventory at Buzz Bands HQ, the “Locals” folder in my iTunes was bulging.

Silly list-maker that I am, the contents of that folder have been whittled down to the Buzz Bands LA Playlist 2009 – my favorites of local songs of the year, one per band, and currently standing at 163 tunes. Whew. And now I’ve been given the opportunity to share at least some of it with you.

Thanks to the online Indie 103.1, I will count down my faves in three shows over the next three Wednesdays. (I originally thought it’d be cool to count down the Top 103, but I’m not sure that much music will fit in three two-hour sessions.) The shows will stream at noon on Dec. 2, 9 and 16, and I’ll be sharing the playlist and welcoming comments. That final week I’ll also be recapping my favorite albums (both L.A. and overall) of the year.
