Pearl and the Beard’s amped-up “chamber-pop” comes from the New York City indie scene, the band boasting three singers and unique instrumentation. The trio — Jocelyn Mackenzie (vocals/percussion), Emily Hope Price (vocals/cello/keys) and Jeremy Styles (vocals/guitars) — formed on the open mic circuit in Brooklyn. They are accomplished vocalists and musicians on their own; Price even boasts a master’s degree in cello performance from Carnegie Mellon University. Over their first two albums, their vocal styles and the intricacies in their musicianship blend as if they’ve been playing together for a lifetime, as heard in their latest singles, “You” and “Again Animal.” They serve as a preview of their forthcoming third LP, “Beast,” — folk-rock with a mixture of styles and plenty of energy. “You” might give you a warm-and-fuzzy.
