Almost exactly a year since the release of their EP “How Do You Feel Now,” Rochester, N.Y.’s Joywave are due to release their full-length album with the same title April 21 via Cultco Music. This indie quintet have shown versatility by blending infectious electronica with melodic pop-rock, and the end product is a dance-floor-worthy mix of hooky, attention-grabbing synths and singer Daniel Armbruster’s falsetto. Joywave have released a Sims-meets-Hawk music video for their song “Somebody New” in which the band turn into video game characters that repeatedly injure themselves. Their genre-blending gives nods to fellow indie-dance groups the Rapture and Hot Chip but the catchy style is all their own. “Somebody New” floods the ears with experimental licks, heavy bass, energetic drums and an unshakable melody. Currently on tour with the Bleachers and The Kooks, Joywave are proving to be shape-shifting artisans ready to ride the wave of the EDM scene.
