Coachella 2015: Royal Blood, veins opened

Who: Royal Blood at the Outdoor Theatre
In 2 or Fewer Words: Bloody good.
Memorable Because: Two men. Two instruments. Monstrous stage. Blistering sunshine. No problem. Yes, Royal Blood makes you feel like you want to be concise, even in recounting their 40-minute set, which was so hot you could fry an egg on it. On a day that climaxed with a set by the man who resuscitated the blues duo, Jack White, the Brighton, U.K., pairing of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher made a case for there being plenty of gas left in the most minimalist iteration of rock ’n’ roll. They took the stage guarded by a stuffed crow, which sat atop one of the amps, with drummer Thatcher, wearing a Dodger cap, standing at stoically in front of his kit. Kerr strapped on his guitar, Thatcher sat down and all hell broke loose. Highlighted by “Little Monster,” “Come On Over” and “Figure It Out,” the set closed with a vicious version of “Out of the Black,” from their first EP released 13 long months ago. Wait, they’ve been around only 13 months and are playing Coachella? Well done.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who at some brand’s pool party: Come to Coachella next time.
