Warm statements from Canadian composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Mocky on Friday night at the Lyric Theatre didn’t surprise, but were nonetheless endearing.
How do you spell love? If it’s not “L-O-V-E,” the title of the 2002 single by L.A. indie-pop band Irving, then it’s “f-r-e-e m-u-s-i-c.” So, in time for Valentine’s Day, L.A.-based independent label Eenie Meenie Records has a free 10-song mix that offers a look into their small but eclectic catalog. What a year. Buzz Bands LA covered more than 450 Los Angeles artists in 2014, and if I glance at my computer-adjacent “to-do” list, it could have been more. If, y’know, there were 40 hours in a day. Below is the annual Buzz Bands LA Index, in which we’ve endeavored to compile links to all […]

The announcement also appeared on the artist’s Facebook page. No additional information is available at this time, the press release […]

We last heard from Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan in 2009. The Grammy Award-nominated “Divided by Night†showcased their unique gift for […]
We got all excited when Jeff Schroeder and the Majestic High turned Vince Guaraldi’s “Cristmas Time Is Here” into an orchestrated dream-pop gem. Well, this showed up on Christmas Eve – Priscilla Ahn, aided by Wendy Wang, doing a dreamy cover of “Deck the Halls” to some ostensible home video. Enjoy the day.
SOHN’s sounds seem entirely appropriate as darkness arrives sooner and the weather gets cold and potentially dreary. Heartbreak, loneliness and isolation seem merely the painful precursors to a creative outpouring for the Vienna-based Englishman, probably resulting in something like “Bloodflows,” his three-song debut for 4AD. That release, in May, saw the accomplished producer and remixer […]
