[Rounding up tonight’s shows, in one paragraph or less:]
Tuesday, Sept. 23: The second of the two-night stands by CSS (at the Mayan), the Raconteurs/the Kills (the Greek) and Fleet Foxes (the El Rey) go off tonight; I’ve had random conversations with folks who went to all three the first night, and none was disappointed. (And only the Fleet Foxes show is sold out as of noon.) … This year’s “The Stand Ins” hasn’t gotten the plaudits of 2007’s “The Stage Names,” but Okkervil River will get a lot of love at the Fonda — especially with Sea Wolf opening. … Check the Spaceland lineup for details, but the Obamarama fundraiser tonight looks like a good time. … And Dhani Harrison’s project, thenewno2, continues its run of Tuesdays at the Key Club.

As much as I love the Raconteurs, their show at the Greek last night was not even close to their best or most energetic. Brendan, in particular, seemed disengaged ( I am huge fan of his solo albums, and have seen him perform his solo material a couple times). I have seen Raconteurs four times and last night was not their night. I was in the pit and expected to be blown away seeing them so close but it was not the case. Jack White brought a lot of energy like a true pro but overall, band energy was lacking. I guess it goes to show “everyone has their off nights”.
thanks for the cool dhani harrison tip. i had no idea….
