Videos: Golden Animals, Year Long Disaster

Golden Animals’ debut album “Free Your Mind and Win a Pony” is an occasionally arresting collection of ramshackle folk-blues that’s the sonic second cousin to Brightback Morning Light’s next-generation hippiedom. The itinerant duo of Tommy Eisner and Linda Beecroft, now based in southern California, channel a lot of bands popular during the last massively unpopular war, Vietnam — the Dead, the Doors and Love, to name three. No surprise Golden Animals are on the bill this weekend (with the likes of the Black Angels and Dead Meadow) at the Clean Air Clear Stars festival in Pioneertown. In Rylan Perry, the duo found a filmmaker who captured their desert aesthetic adroitly. Here’s the video for “The Steady Roller”:

It’s been quite a year for Year Long Disaster, whose ferocious throwback-to-the-’70s rock earned them tour support spots with the Foo Fighters and Motorhead (not to mention a little love from the local press). The Daniel Davies-fronted trio, who tour later this month with the Toadies (and some of whom will sit in with the jammy Bakerton Group on Friday at the Roxy), recently released the video for “Leda Atomica.” It’s directed by Matt Maiellaro (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) and animated, storyboarded and edited by Nick Gibbons. A fun, fun ride:
