Tonight in L.A.

[Glenn Frey turns 60 today. Wonder if he’ll stop by Royce Hall to look in on his former frontwoman …]

westindiangirl-typarkerIt’s nice to see an icon back onstage tonight, a woman who has had such a profound influence. I’m talking about Linda Ronstadt, of course; she salutes “the Mexican music of her youth” by performing with Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano at UCLA’s Royce Hall. … Oh, and Madonna plays at the ol’ ballyard tonight, and the everybody is all atwitter with rumors that Britney and Justin might be there too. … Well, the Ryan Seacrest posse is more likely to be at Dodger Stadium than any of these places: the Wiltern (TV on the Radio); the Music Box @ Fonda (Nashville’s Old Crow Medicine Show); the El Rey (Ingrid Michaelson, with great opener David Ford); or the Avalon (Coheed & Cambria). How’s that for something-for-every-palate? … There’s an embarrassment of riches on the local scene too: Enchanting sextet West Indian Girl [pictured] kicks off a Thursday residency at Spaceland with a great supporting lineup; the Happy Hollows celebrate the release of their “Imaginary” EP at the Echo; the Yelling bring their intense rock to 3 Clubs; Correatown and Go West Young Man are worth a trip to the Silverlake Lounge; Saint Motel plays the Viper Room; Free Lions and Venus Infers are at the Detroit Bar; and even at the Scene in Glendale there’s a good trio of locals — the Black Kites, Thailand and Avi Buffalo. I’m exhausted just typing it. And chagrined for probably having missed something.
