Dare you to listen to MC Lars [pictured] without at least cracking a smile. The Bay Area laptop rapper’s first batch of music caught my ear back in 2005 and it’s just gotten more pointed — check out “I Want My Guns N’ Roses” on his MySpace page. Tonight at the Knitting Factory, he headlines a “nerdcore” show that includes a screening of the movie “Nerdcore Rising.” … Over on the Sunset Strip, Shwayze figures to pack the Roxy. … The Decemberists, with new music on the way (interview and stuff here), hold forth at the Wiltern. … And a passel of fine residencies come to a close: His Orchestra (with Vice Records newbies Japanese Motors on the bill) at the Silverlake Lounge; Francisco the Man at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; the Monolators at Pehrspace; and, at Spaceland, the dual residencies of Marching Band and the Western States Motel.

“The lights go down, the fans start to scream, Hearts That Hate have hit the scene…”
Best emo chorus ever, and in a joke song
