Tonight in L.A.

mclars-watsonDare you to listen to MC Lars [pictured] without at least cracking a smile. The Bay Area laptop rapper’s first batch of music caught my ear back in 2005 and it’s just gotten more pointed — check out “I Want My Guns N’ Roses” on his MySpace page. Tonight at the Knitting Factory, he headlines a “nerdcore” show that includes a screening of the movie “Nerdcore Rising.” … Over on the Sunset Strip, Shwayze figures to pack the Roxy. … The Decemberists, with new music on the way (interview and stuff here), hold forth at the Wiltern. … And a passel of fine residencies come to a close: His Orchestra (with Vice Records newbies Japanese Motors on the bill) at the Silverlake Lounge; Francisco the Man at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; the Monolators at Pehrspace; and, at Spaceland, the dual residencies of Marching Band and the Western States Motel.
