[Happy birthday to the Clash’s Paul Simonon. Now, get your week off to a good start …]
I want to say it’s a slow night, but maybe that’s because I already the rain. And besides, it’s never slow when the Movies [pictured: Timothy James] are playing. The Silver Lake veterans, who just released a great new album, “Based on a True Story,” continue their residency at Spaceland, supported on this night by Nico Stai, among others. … Gangi’s debut album just came out in November, and the electro-psych-folk outfit will play at the Echo, while down Sunset at the Silverlake Lounge, the Color Turning continues its residency. … It’ll be a night of serious country at the Echoplex, where banjo legend and former “Hee Haw” cast member Roni Stoneman performs with a host of local luminaries. [Excellent backgrounder from LA CityBeat here.] … Bloc Party rocks the Grove of Anaheim. … Also in O.C., it’s Dynamite Walls and Midnight Hour continuing their joint residency at the Detroit Bar. … And it’s John West at the Roxy; Jake LaBotz at downtown’s Redwood Bar; and Test Your Reflex and You Me and Iowa at the Hotel Cafe.
