Red Cortez added to support Morrissey on tour

redcorteztn006Los Angeles quartet Red Cortez has been selected as the sole supporting act for 12 U.S. dates on Morrissey’s tour.

Moz, crisscrossing the country behind the Feb. 17 release of his new album “Years of Refusal,” will be joined by the L.A. rockers starting Feb. 28 in Florida and ending March 17 in Pittsburgh. Dates are listed on the band’s MySpace page. The tour coincides with the unsigned foursome’s first proper release as Red Cortez (they self-released three EPs under their previous name, the Weather Underground). The new EP, “Hands to the Wall,” will be out in early March.

The Morrissey tour means, however, that Red Cortez had to scratch two L.A. dates, a March 1 gig at Space 15 Twenty and a March 16 date with Primal Scream and the Brian Jonestown Massacre at Club Nokia. After the 12 dates with Morrissey, Red Cortez heads for the South by Southwest Music Festival, which will include a performance at L.A. promoter Sean Carlson’s Mess With Texas 3 party.
