The Temper Trap sure sounds like a big catch

Australian quartet the Temper Trap caused quite a stir last week at South by Southwest, attracting music industry scouts from far and wide to gigs that stamped them as, possibly, a Very Big Band – or at least one approaching their arena-sized sound.” Monday night’s show at Spaceland, then, was kind of a test to see if the hype stretched beyond Austin’s city limits.
And it did. The Temper Trap’s blend of crisp instrumentation, insistent beats and soaring vocals – which have earned seemingly obligatory comparisons to the likes of U2 and TV on the Radio – somehow sound fresh, and your ears don’t have to work overtime to want to occupy the grand sonic space that singer Dougie Temper creates. The Melbourne band has an album completed (with Arctic Monkeys producer Jim Abbiss), and it shouldn’t be long before the business dealings get done and the music gets out. Color me eager.
Here’s the video for the band’s “Science of Fear’:
They were seriously great last night. Not many bands can stay engaging during an instrumental song.
And why was Spaceland so packed? Surely it wasn’t cause of The Temper Trap. Perhaps it’s cause it was free and the night after SXSW?
Some excellent Australian bands making waves right now..
I read on a log that they are a Jesus Christ band trying to spread the word?
