Videos: Cursive, the Black Lips

[Amusement for your afternoon, in 10 minutes or less …]

A few ideas in this video should have been chucked – how many times have we seen a tennis player assaulted by volleys of returns? – but the sight of Cursive’s Tim Kasher shredding on a mandolin is good for a few laughs. The song “From the Hips” is off the Omaha band’s sixth full-length, “Mama, I’m Swollen,” released this month on Saddle Creek, and if it inspires makeout fests like the one at the end of the video, I need to revisit the album.

Ah, home for the holidays. That’s the motif the Black Lips used for the video to the retro-jangly “I’ll Be Home,” off their recent Vice Records release “200 Million Thousand.” Super, I mean, Super 8, guys. The Atlanta quartet hits SoCal on April 15 at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa and rocks the El Rey Theatre on May 1.
