Coachella: Thievery Corporation brings the beat

[Contributor Monica Alvarez reports from the main stage:]

As the sun vanished Day 2 of Coachella, the masses shifted west and settled down for a type of spiritual meditation that only a band like Thievery Corporation could lead. At first, it felt as if the ninjas on the giant video screens busted a little sneak attack on the crowd. Boom, the beats started, and the Corporation’s melting pot of world music, dub and dance had been brought to a boil. “Lebanese Blonde” from the “Garden State” soundtrack was a big hit, as was Perry Farrell singing on “teh Cosmic Game.” While the sitar on stage gently weeped, those that were near the main stage were reminded that el pueblo unido jamas sera vencido (a people united shall never be defeated)” and a harmonious trance ensued.”  Their set even made me forget that Glasvegas had canceled their show without warning.
