2009_poster_largeDepeche Mode, Tool, the Killers, Jane’s Addiction, the Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon were announced as headliners for this summer’s Lollapalooza – topping a roster that includes the strong Los Angeles contingent of the Silversun Pickups, the Airborne Toxic Event, No Age and the Henry Clay People.

Silversun, Airborne and No Age represented for L.A. at last weekend’s Coachella, but Lollapalooza – scheduled for Aug. 7-9 at Grant Park in Chicago – is the first big festival assignment for the Henry Clay People. The ascendant L.A. quartet, which is three-quarters of the way through its April residency at Spaceland, signed on with the management company C3 (which also manages the Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits festivals) in March. It’s a nice step for the Henry Clays, whose jagged take on classic rock and explosive live shows have earned them plenty of fans in these parts.

The rest of Lollapalooza looks pretty formidable – the second-tier headliners include the likes of Lou Reed, TV on the Radio, Andrew Bird, Ben Harper and Relentless7, Thievery Corporation, Snoop Dogg and Rise Against. Then there are Animal Collective, the Decemberists, Of Montreal, Arctic Monkeys … aw, heck, you can read the poster … Chicago, anyone?
