Jay Bennett, the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who played with Wilco for the three-album stretch including “Being There,” “Summerteeth” and “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” has died in his sleep at age 45. Bennett, who in late 2008 released his latest solo album “Whatever Happened I Apologize” via the free digital download label Rock Proper, was preparing to have hip replacement surgery, he told fans in a MySpace post in April.
