A little synchronicity from a recent trip to my native Midwest: Stopping by the Firebird club in St. Louis to take in a solo set by Adam Franklin, I caught the opening set from St. Louis trio Glass Waves. Their languid, shoegazey rock went down like a cold drink on a summer night, recalling a whole pedal array of reverb heroes from the 1990s. And you know what? they’re giving their album away as a free download:

I’m not particularly fond of remix albums, and even less fond of Lily Allen, but having heard the original album I have to give props to the L.A. producer who goes by Doctor Rosen Rosen. He’s remixed — no, re-orchestrated — Allen’s entire album “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” using only Allen’s vocals from the originals. The result, “It’s Not Me It’s … Doctor Rosen Rosen,” is pretty stunning. Try playing a couple of originals back-to-back with the Doc’s prescriptions. After you download the whole album, of course:
