It worked well for the Dead Weather. Now the Flaming Lips plan their own pop-up store — complete with an intimate performance — on Thursday at the Nike/Ricardo Montalban Theatre, 1615 Vine St. Like the Dead Weather did downtown in August to create a splash around its new album, the Lips will offer one-of-a-kind merch (including a vinyl pressing of their new double-disc album “Embryonic”) at the store, open only on Thursday from noon to midnight. Tickets for the band’s MySpace “Secret” Show at 7:30 will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis at the venue, with with some available at Amoeba on Tuesday (with the purchase of “Embryonic,” naturally) and others through giveaways from KCRW-FM and the LA Weekly. Details.
☛ L.A. rockers Nico Stai will be filming a video for their song “Dead Pony” at a free, all-ages performance Friday at the Ghettogloss Gallery (9109 Melrose). Doors open at 8:30 p.m.
☛ LiveNation is expanding its 2-for-1 ticket promotion, and there’s some pretty nifty concerts on the list. The half-off sale runs for 24 hours, beginning at 12:01 a.m Wednesday and covering tickets bought through the promoter’s website. After the jump, the L.A.-area shows included in the promotion:
