As Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz wends his way toward Los Angeles on his Pablove Across America bicycle trek, plans are in place for the big final bash — a benefit concert on Nov. 21 at the Avalon. This week, Band of Horses and Sea Wolf were added to a lineup that already included the Nightwatchman (Tom Morello), Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Shirley Manson, Butch Walker, Tom Gabel of Against Me! and Charlotte Martin, among others. It will be an evening of acoustic or semi-acoustic performances benefiting the charity, named for Castelaz’s late son, Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, devoted to children’s cancer programs and research. Tickets are $35 and $65.
☛ Wow — three unreleased tracks in the Daytrotter session from Voxhaul Broadcast [pictured], and they sound great.
☛ The self-titled album from Them Crooked Vultures isn’t out until Nov. 17, but since it leaked on these goshdarned Interwebs, the band has responded by setting up a full-album stream on their website — in case you’re curious about what Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones were up to.
☛ Sweet gift from KCRW in my inbox: The station has assembled a playlist from its DJs’ selection and is releasing it free via iTunes. Tracks from Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Mayer Hawthorne, Eels, Sonic Youth, Fanfarlo and St. Vincent are among the picks. All it will cost you is your name and e-mail. Go here now. Speaking of Edward Sharpe, Amazon has the album “Up From Below” for $5 all this month — and the band’s NYC show tonight from the Bowery Ballroom will be streamed live right here.
☛ Mars Volta main man and guitar virtuoso Omar Rodriguez Lopez released his solo album “Xenophanes” this week — stream it right here — and I have to say, it’s an earful. Download, if you dare, “Mundo De Ciegos.”
☛ Other streams: Tori Amos’ “Midwinter Graces,” Editors’ surprising “In This Light and On This Evening” and Neil Young’s “Dreamin’ Man’” — from a collection (to be released in December) of live 1992 performances of the songs from “Harvest Moon.”
