Tonight in L.A.: Via Tania, Paramore, HEALTH

by kevin on November 11, 2009

[Birthday greetings today to roots-rock king Dave Alvin, who, by the way, will be playing one of the upcoming West Coast, Left Coast events at Walt Disney Concert Hall — he's there Dec. 6 with Brian Wilson and the Living Sisters (Inara George, Becky Stark and Eleini Mandell). Here's what's up tonight:]

viatania-myspAustralia-by-way-of-Chicago’s Via Tania [pictured, with download below], the nom de tune of Tania Bowers, brings her self-described “moon pop” (she’s drawn comparisons to Bat for Lashes) to the Bootleg Theater for the second of two L.A. shows. … Hot night at the Smell — maybe one the last truly hot nights? HEALTH and Abe Vigoda team up to do a benefit at the downtown venue to help pay for a new cooling system. … Paramore plays its big make-up show at the Hollywood Palladium; the Oct. 1 date was postponed because singer Hayley Williams was having vocal problems. … Switchfoot hits the Roxy behind its new album “Hello Hurricane.” … Glassjaw plays the Mayan Theatre. … Husker Du’s Grant Hart does an early solo thing at the Viper Room. … Also: Butch Walker at the Hotel Cafe;  the Dutchess and the Duke at Spaceland; Fu Manchu at the Troubadour; John Carpenter at the Silverlake Lounge; Hanson at the House of Blues Anaheim; and Electric Six at the Key Club.
