Buzz Bands LA Playlist 2009: The complete list

by kevin on December 16, 2009

Indie1031logo2It’s the wrap-up of Buzz Bands Playlist 2009 — beginning at noon today on Indie1031.com, I will finish counting down my favorite SoCal songs of the year. But first, a confession: A friend and loyal reader asked me at the Buzz Bands party on Sunday night where, in my list, a certain band would appear. My jaw dropped. I’d flat-out forgotten somebody. Which was bound to happen, I suppose, considering as many songs/bands as I did. So I hope you’ll forgive me today for having 41 songs in my Top 40. … And who knows, I’ve probably forgotten somebody else. I’m sure the commenters will let me know.

After the jump, the list so far (it’s being updated as I am on the air):

Avi Buffalo,”What’s In It For?”! * There’s also another omission but my shameless self promoting has its limits *

kevin December 16, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Er, stay tuned for that one.

meriah December 16, 2009 at 1:32 pm

ah, yes, still not down to #1 *coffee. now*

Scott December 16, 2009 at 1:48 pm

This top 40 countdown has all kinds of ear candy in it.

kevin December 16, 2009 at 1:50 pm

There are so many flavors to choose from.

Dayna December 16, 2009 at 1:59 pm

the suspense. you’re 1-2 on my picks so far.

John S December 16, 2009 at 2:36 pm

If Eastern Conference Champions dont make this list…

kevin December 16, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Ahem. If they don’t, I should be relegated to the Midwest Division.

Dayna December 16, 2009 at 3:06 pm

There it is!

wordy word word December 16, 2009 at 3:18 pm

rhone occupation — nice.

kevin December 16, 2009 at 3:37 pm

That song has been on every mixtape I’ve made this year.

chuckp December 16, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Nice to see the rest of the list. Well done. Thanks for doing it!

JAX December 16, 2009 at 5:21 pm

Thanks for all the love!!!

kevin December 17, 2009 at 12:31 am

And here’s a song I love that I omitted from the list. Damn.

Downtown/Union, “Wake Up Call From the Nexus of Me and You.” It’s great, look it up.

Butros December 17, 2009 at 2:21 am

What…no Ferraby Lionheart? Are you serious? “Dear Corinne” was gorgeous.

Disappointed.

kevin December 17, 2009 at 11:00 am

Ferraby’s a Nashville guy now. I heard that his new album was great (and when I saw him live he was wonderful), but I was never sent the record and didn’t hear that track. On it now, thanks.

Mara December 17, 2009 at 11:14 am

I’m surprised you didn’t place Edward Sharpe higher considering the year they’ve had. (I know, that’s nit-picky since you did put them in the Top 10.)

wayne December 17, 2009 at 12:16 pm

solid list. nice to see ECC up there, too. thanks, kevin!

Sarengeti Rocks! December 17, 2009 at 4:45 pm

Kevin P December 17, 2009 at 5:16 pm

Big, big fan of that #71 song. I mean, huuuuge fan.
Also, go Dodgers.
Also, also- happy holidays, Bronson. You rule.
(new music coming some time in Jan or Feb, btw)

JanaBee December 23, 2009 at 12:33 pm

A supremely difficult task and an absolutely amazing list!

Thank you so much for including us, we’re seriously honored.
Love,

“bloody hands”

shameless promotion…

Jason January 9, 2010 at 9:24 am

7. The Ruby Friedman Orchestra, “Shooting Star” – are you kidding me? i unfortunately had to suffer through her terrible set at silverlake two months ago – unlistenable tripe

kevin January 9, 2010 at 8:18 pm

Wow, some good old-fashioned hater-ade, by somebody using God’s e-mail address at that. Jason, what is you find so unlistenable? Friedman’s powerful voice? Her ace team of back-up musicians? Her rather diva aesthetic? Her red hair? I’m curious, because I was at the Silverlake Lounge too. So, no, I’m not kidding you.
