Video premiere: Samuel Stewart, ‘How Long Will It Take’ (Pat Kelly cover)

by kevin on May 28, 2010

“Oh, Samuel Stewart, you are so grounded. No allowance, and no ‘Guitar Hero’ privileges for a week!” “Awww, mom …” OK, so I imagined that exchange after seeing the light-hearted DIY video for “How Long Will It Take,” a cover of the 1969 reggae hit by Pat Kelly that later was famously covered by Jeff Buckley. The video, incidentally, was indeed shot at his mother’s house. Stewart’s pajama-party version of the song has crept into his recent live sets as the young popsmith works on the follow-up to his debut EP “The Beginner” [free download]. Stewart also has begun working on a project called Nightmare & the Cat with his brother Django James (whose Django James & the Midnight Squires fostered a bit of a buzz a couple years ago before he moved to London). Stewart has a busy weekend ahead, too:

||| Live: Samuel Stewart performs at a video release party Sunday night at Cinespace (free with RSVP).

||| Also: Stewart performs tonight at 9:30 at the Casa courtyard in California Plaza as part of the inaugural Downtown Music Project’s concert crawl.

||| Stream: After the jump, listen to “The Missing Year” by Nightmare & the Cat:
