In his collaboration with Richard Davies as Cardinal and solo outings including two essential albums for Sub Pop (1995’s “It’s Heavy in Here” and ’97’s “The Lateness of the Hour,” go get ’em), Eric Matthews made lush headphones music that turned the space between your ears into kaleidoscopic mush. Something about the orchestration and arrangements made you hold your breath, or search your mind for some fitting piece of cinema. Same goes for Seinking Ships, his new collaboration with Ohioan Christopher Seink. The collaboration’s debut album “Museum Quality Capture” came out last week on S-Curve Records, featuring guest vocals on three tracks by Miki Berenyi of seminal 4AD popgazers Lush. “Museum Quality’s” instrumentals range from the sublime to the eclectic; the tracs with Berenyi make you wonder why she receded from the scene for so long. Nice. (And Matthews and Davies reportedly have patched up their differences enough to resume working on new Cardinal material? Nice, too.)
