Even with frontman Tommy Walter [pictured at top] a bit under the weather, Abandoned Pools’ comeback show on Tuesday night at Spaceland was strong. The L.A. quartet, playing live for the first time in five years, sprinkled in some new material with songs from their 2001 and 2005 albums, highlighting a Buzz Bands LA-hosted evening of diverse music. Chasing Kings’ nervy indie-pop kicked off the night, before rock quintet Vanaprasta came on with its stadium-sized licks (not to mention singer Steven Wilkin’s arena-sized beard). After Abandoned Pools’ headlining set, Judson & Mary closed the diverse night with a set of winsome, energetic folk rock. Thanks to the bands, to Jeff Schroeder of the Smashing Pumpkins for DJing, and to everybody who came.
