Tonight in L.A.: Smokey Robinson, the Californian, Nico Vega, the Guggenheim Grotto, Chris Shiflett

by kevin on July 14, 2010

theguggenheimgrottoMy top 3 shows to hit if you’re not going to the Hollywood Bowl for Smokey Robinson:

The Californian [background] and Judson & Mary [ditto] play Spaceland, but late additions to the bill will make tonight pretty special — singer-songwriter Charlie Wadhams plays late, and L.A. newcomer (via Austin) Billy Harvey [whom I wrote about way back when] plays early.
Nico Vega opens for Sweethead at the Troubadour.
☛ And Irish folk duo the Guggenheim Grotto [pictured] continues its Hotel Cafe residency, playing prior to a set by Chris Shiflett & the Dead Peasants.

Your tastes may vary: Kings of Leon, Built to Spill and the Features at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre (if you missed them at the Bowl on Monday); Asura at the Airliner; Victoria Noll at the Silverlake Lounge; Halloween Swim Team and Corridor at Pehrspace; Kozmonaut at the Viper Room; Basshaters at Echo Curio; and Addison Strong at the Mint.

when i looked back to read the Billy Harvey article i noted a show listing at the bottom of the page
“Amy Farris, who collaborated with Dave Alvin on her impressive debut, “Anyway,” performs Friday at King King”
she is missed.
