News bits: Fitz & the Tantrums, Waved Out 2, The xx, the Cribs, the Belle Brigade

[Notes from here, there and everywhere …]

Stand up: Fitz & the Tantrums will be part of the Stand Up 2 Cancer benefit tonight – you can catch their performance online right here, after the network television of the telethon is over. And you can watch it above.
Bargain: Dungen with the Entrance Band, Sharon Van Etten, the Fresh & Onlys, Shannon and the Clams, John Carpenter, Lord Huron, So Many Wizards, Summer Darling and Young Prisms – that’s the lineup for Aquarium Drunkard’s Waved Out II on Sept. 25 at the Echo/Echoplex. No big news there. But all that for 10 bucks? Whoa.
Mercury falling: Thanks to M People (1994), Ms. Dynamite (2002) and Elbow (2008), The xx are not the most underwhelming winners of the Mercury Prize ever. But the 2010 field of nominees – absent anything resembling a great rock record – may have been the weakest ever.
Writing: U.K. quartet the Cribs – Jarman brothers Gary, Ryan and Ross along with guitarman Johnny Marr – are penning a new album, but they’ll be looking for a new U.S. label.
Label them off and running: And speaking of Warner Bros., the label has signed the Belle Brigade, is that true? Good for the brother-sister team of Ethan and Barbara Bruska, then. Barbara, of course, is the rock-solid drummer who’s worked with myriad L.A. acts, most recently Jenny Lewis. See them Sept. 21 at the Bootleg.
And finally: Mighty happy to report the Dresden Dolls are reuniting to tour. The bad news: No L.A. dates (yet).
