[Why, hello, 2011. Nice to make your acquaintance. Birthday greetings go out today to the incomparable Van Dyke Parks …]

Top shows tonight while waiting breathlessly for Best Coast’s late-night television debut (“Jimmy Fallon,” NBC):

‣ Buzzing indie-pop quintet Grouplove [pictured] kicks off a residency at the Bootleg Theater, supported by Guards, the latest project from Willowz main man Richie James Follin [whom we told you about in November.]
The Belle Brigade launches its Spaceland/Satellite residency (co-residents the Fling don’t join the fray until next Monday), supported by Alex and Sam and the Sweet Hurt.
‣ Newbies Cannoneers of the New Command have the residency at the Echo, where Lemon Sun and Astra Heights’ Timothy Morales open.
‣ And indie-rock trio Kinch is not only doing three residencies this month but they’re racking up some mileage. They’re doing weekly stints at the Silverlake Lounge (starting tonight), San Diego and in their native Phoenix. Yeah, that’s in Arizona.

Not to mention: Lucy Schwartz at the RSVP-only It’s a School Night at Bardot; Pacific Hurt, the Union Line and My Pet Saddle at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; Summer Twins at Pehrspace; Aces & Eights at the Viper Room; and Kristi Michelle at the Mint.
