‘To Haiti With Love’ compilation packed with L.A. goodies; Vanaprasta to headline benefit show Jan. 15

It’s been almost a year since Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 earthquake. Relief and reconstructions efforts still need support, and the L.A. music community is stepping up. A group called Plays Well With Others has curated a sterling 18-track compilation titled “To Haiti With Love,” featuring songs by artists such as Gary Jules, Love Like Fire, Samuel Stewart, John Carpenter, His Orchestra and the Parson Redheads. It’s well worth the minimum $5 donation.

Heck, the Jimmy Tamborello remix of His Orchestra’s “Attached” might be worth 5 bucks alone: [audio:http://www.mediafire.com/file/o1hlrs1y7zs8j13/His%20Orchestra%20-%20Attached%20%28Jimmy%20Tamborello%20Remix%29.mp3]

Anyway, to celebrate its release, PWWO (along with Buzz Bands LA) will present a show on Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Bootleg Theater [tickets].

Vanaprasta, John Carpenter, John Isaac Watters and Mariah McManus will perform, and a gallery of images from Haiti by photographer Jess Koehler (whose work is featured above) will be exhibited. Proceeds from the show and the album will benefit Reach Out to Haiti, an organization that is helping to rebuild the Ruuska Village, an orphanage and shelter destroyed by the quake.
