Mp3-pack: Black Dub, Crocodiles, Deerhoof

[Today’s little bundle of downloads comes via three bands who are all playing in L.A. this weekend:]

Daniel Lanois’ Black Dub, “I Believe in You.” The first single from the foursome’s self-titled album, which came out in November, showcases Trixie Whitley’s great voice against the subtle backdrop provided by Lanois, drummer Brian Blade and bassist Daryl Johnson. Lanois’ impromptu show at the Satellite last weekend gave me a small taste, and it was remarkable. (Tonight at the El Rey.)

Crocodiles, “Sleep Forever.” The title track from their sophomore album, released in September on Fat Possum. The San Diego band has gotten better and better each of the three times I’ve seen them. (Tonight at the Echo.)

Deerhoof, “The Merry Barracks.” More merry experimentation from the San Francisco sonic explorers’ new album “Deerhoof vs. Evil.” (Saturday at the Echoplex)
