Download: Low, ‘Try To Sleep’

It’s been three years since Low‘s last album (thanks to Alex Sparhawk and Steve Garrington’s psych-pop rock side project, Retribution Gospel Choir), but just because they’ve come back with a new collection of songs that offers one of their shortest titles yet, “C’mon” sounds like it won’t be holding back any of the strong melodious slowcore the Duluth, Minn., band has been known to nurture. Whereas “The Destroyer” took on some electronic elements for an augmented rock sound, their new single, “Try To Sleep,” echoes a majestic warmth that they apparently had no trouble finding while recording the album beneath the high ceilings of a former Catholic church (a/k/a Sacred Heart Studio). With a slight Nashville undertone, harmonies have plenty of room to float above the delicate glockenspiel accents. Recently mixed in a Hollywood apartment, which significantly contrasted from their studio, “C’mon” is slated for a release on April 12 via Sub Pop.
