That roar you might have heard emanating from Santa Clarita wasn’t a roller coaster crash at Magic Mountain – it’s the thunder from the young shredders in Poweraxe. The vision of Brian Randall and Ryan Lichten, Poweraxe deals in instrumental post-rock with a stoner metal bent; their compositions play the loud/soft dynamic like a game of hide-and-seek, paying off in mountainous crescendos liable to melt anything nearby. Their EP “Slaughter the Animals, Poison the Earth” came out last August, and they have a full-length, “The Kinship,” on the way from L.A.’s Modern Sleeze Records.
