Tonight in L.A.: Trashcan Sinatras, the Baseball Project, Low End Theory’s Japan benefit, Ringside

[Just in time for the beginning of baseball season – and the arrival of the Baseball Project – your humble blogger returns from some time in a distant land, away from the noise. That one mixtape I made for driving through the Midwest was pretty killer, though …]

Already, my most difficult show-going decision of spring:

‣ Scottish songsmiths Trashcan Sinatras gave a memorable performance last summer (the photo is from a June show at the Key Club) when their 20th anniversary tour – and a new album, “In the Music” – brought them to L.A. They’re coming back around now on an acoustic tour of the U.S., a format that suits their deft songwriting perfectly. Tonight they play the Bootleg Theater.
The Baseball Project (who hit a home run or two at South by Southwest) sports a lineup of Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3), Scott McCaughey (R.E.M., the Minus 5), Peter Buck (R.E.M.) and Linda Pitmon (Miracle 3, Golden Smog). They recently released their second collection of songs about the national pastime and its heroes (“Vol. 2: High and Inside”), and not long after the Giants and Dodgers finish their Opening Day game not far away, the Baseball Project will be rocking the Echo.
