Except for a few notable alliances, the hypnotic, cinematic music of the Black Pine never quite got the love it deserved during the band’s three-album stay in Los Angeles. The husband-and-wife team of singer-guitarist Mitch Cichocki and singer-drummer Emma Kathan (who collaborated with Adam Goldberg on his LANDy project and a couple of his movies, and worked as Sarah Silverman’s backup band) flitted off to Florida after 2008’s “Still Life.” Now based in Jacksonville, they’ve teamed up with Cash Carter to embark on a new project, A Ghost Haunts This Building. The first song to emerge, arriving in a video made by the band and Darren Ankenman, is haunting indeed; “Every Night” offers a voyeuristic peek into a party that’s just waiting to go off. Is the narrator on her way to save the day, or has she left early? You tell me. Meanwhile, Kathan says an EP and a website are in the works, and, possibly, a trip back to L.A.
