Coachella: Titus Andronicus, the monitors buzzing

Who: Titus Andronicus on the Outdoor Stage
In 3 Words Or Fewer: Steady Jersey angst
I’ll Remember This Until: I listen to “The Monitor” again. Patrick Stickles has always been a great frontman. He’s a skinny, bearded pale fellow who is constantly jerked around on stage from the rock pumping through his own veins. In fact, all members of Titus Andronicus seem like they don’t get too much sun and perhaps this is why their afternoon set was enjoyable but not much different than any other time I’ve seen them play outdoors. Although they had an early start and played to their usual set of screaming and moshing fans up in front, the lack of growth or an X-factor this time around had me thinking I would have been more satisfied listening to their album. It’s nice to see a band comfortable with their sound on stage, but like sitting inside without any fresh air for a long time, it can do more harm than good.
What I’d Tell My Friends Who Were At Skrillex: Although Titus Andronicus wasn’t as riveting as I had hoped, I’m sure Skrillex’s “emo” electronica music didn’t even compare to the emotion from Stickles’ vocals alone.
