For a band whose name derives from two deep characters of Dostoevsky’s “Brothers Karamazov,” Ivan & Alyosha‘s repertoire is rather lively. Originally just a two-piece consisting of Tim Wilson and Ryan Carbary, the Seattle-based band has upped their charming folk pop-rock songs with stronger harmonies now that they have added two more members (Tim’s brother, Pete, and Tim Kim). Wit and beauty from earlier songs such as “Easy to Love” on their “The Verse, The Chorus” EP persevere on the new collection of songs and even sound lighter despite sticking to some heavy themes. “Glorify” off of their latest EP, “Fathers Be Kind,” continues the discourse on divinity and disbelief, as filtered through lush harmonies and acoustic guitar.
