Ears Wide Open: Walter Meego

by kevin on May 25, 2011

Walter Meego doesn’t get out much. And if you hear the Chicago expatriates’ new “Wondervalley,” you’ll wonder why they don’t. The album, the band’s second, is a synth-drenched popsicle that sounds almost glam when you turn it to 11. The album was recorded over six months in a house the band rented in the Mojave Desert near Twentynine Palms, an area locals calls “Wonder Valley,” and amid the glistening melodies you can hear some strange desert transmissions (particularly in “Here I Am”). But with other responsibilities tugging at members Justin Sconza, Colin Yarck and Andrew Adzemovic — Sconza recently as a touring keyboardist — the trio seldom plays live. Which makes Sunday night’s show with their original lineup pretty enticing.

Looking forward to this album. Might have to catch this show. Though I wish they would work on making the vocals slightly less nasal.
