Download: Virgin Islands, ‘No Doctor’

by seraphina on June 22, 2011

Seattle may have mourned the loss of the Cops, but their “last-wave” punk scene has prevailed thanks to Michael Jaworski’s newest project Virgin Islands. With the help of drummer Aaron Ball, bassist Charles Keller and guitarist Christopher Meyer, Virgin Islands have been offering audaciously angular rock since 2009 with their EP, “The Age of Anxiety.” Their debut, however, picks up on Jaworski’s signature socially charged manifestos and takes it up a notch, where the Cops once succeeded. Despite the name, these riveting tunes are not a soundtrack for a Caribbean cruise. Appropriately name-dropping the former Nebraska senator (the “angriest man in Nebraska”), their new full-length “Ernie Chambers vs. God” has all the fundamentals of punk-rock: The sneering vocals, the screeching guitar lines and tight, fast rhythms. Palpitate accordingly.
