Tenlons Fort, the vehicle for the meditative songwriting of Jack Gibson, will play their first Los Angeles show in more than a year when the band headlines Buzz Bands LA’s SecondTuesday songwriter night on July 12 at Lot 1 Cafe in Echo Park. Tenlons Fort will be joined by the Sweet Hurt, CMG & We Are the Night and Paul Layton. The show begins at 9 .m.; admission is $5 at the door.

Gibson, who splits his time between Austin, L.A. and various other locales, released one of the surprise albums of 2010, “Shelters.” Recently he’s been working on an EP titled “Disaster Speaks a Thousand Words.” He’s posted a “rough cut unfinished” version of the self-recorded EP – “recorded in a few hours with doubletracked vocals” on Bandcamp.

The Sweet Hurt’s self-titled album came out late year [see her interview with Radio Free Silver Lake], and songwriter Wendy Wang was abetted by a host of local talent, among them Priscilla Ahn, Jake Blanton, HoneyHoney’s Ben Jaffe and Obi Best’s Alex Lilly. CMG & We are the Night, the nom de tune of the South Bay’s Carlos Michael Gutierrez, released its album “Golden Ghosts” earlier this year. Layton has released two singles this year on Bandcamp and has more on the way.
