Ears Wide Open: The Remainers

1

Every once in a while, I get a blast from Buzz Bands’ past. So it was when I checked out the Remainers, a new (and not-so-new) quartet trading in polished, straight-head pop-rock that’s gotten some love on KROQ. Turns out the Remainers are three-quarters of Big City Rock, who arrived from the Midwest with a bang in 2004 and disappeared in the major-label ether. The band – singer-guitarist Nate Bott, singer-keyboardist Frank Staniszewski and drummer Kaumyar Delkash, along with bassist Jason Lautenschleger – last fall released its debut EP, “Formal Fridays,” recorded with Ryan Dusick of Maroon 5. Jacques Brautbar of Phantom Planet and Joe Guese of the Click Five guested. No secret what you get on “First Fridays,” then: big melodies plopped in clean production, with choruses ready for your FM dial.
