You don’t need an instruction manual to get hooked on the hooky power-pop of Ari Shine – ever since his power chords tied us in knots way back in 2007, Shine has been growing new sounds from the roots of classic rock songwriting. His latest album “Ghost Town Directory,” made with producer Noah Shain (As Tall As Lions, the Secret Handshake, among others) and out on Beverly Martel, embraces the exuberance and naivete of youth, the strange machinations of relationships and the steely power of love. It’s almost a shame that Shine keeps his engine idling in the ’70s, but fans of latter-day pop-rockers such as Matthew Sweet and Brendan Benson will find plenty of ear candy here. Bust out the bell-bottoms.
