Random dispatches: Evan Voytas, Milo Greene, Light FM, the Strokes, Le Switch and more

Heard on the street, jotted in my notebook:

‣ Word on Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake is that L.A.-based Evan Voytas, whose fuzzy pop is equal parts synth, soul and space, will be releasing an EP in October on Dovecote Records, home to Hooray for Earth and Wise Blood, among others. Voytas recently returned from a studio session in London, where he was working on a new EP.
‣ Indie-pop quintet Milo Greene, recently signed to Chop Shop Records (an arm of the influential music supervision company), is shooting for a spring 2012 release for their debut. In the meantime, the five-piece just landed a big tour, opening on 20-plus dates for the Civil Wars.
‣ Speaking of tours, yes, that will be Light FM opening a dozen dates in October for Smashing Pumpkins. And Mini Mansions will be doing dates with the Kills.
‣ Speaking of Chop Shop, I see the tracklisting for the “Grey’s Anatomy Vol. 4” soundtrack not only includes heavyweights like the National, Cee Lo Green and Lykke Li, but locals Correatown (“Further”) and Delta Spirit (“Salt in the Wound”).
The Strokes at Pehrspace, next Monday. A coup for Sean Carnage. But it’s doubtful any actual fans will get to witness the event. Update: Oh, they’re not? Darn.
Le Switch is going away – frontman Aaron Kyle has already embarked on his new project Geronimo Getty – and the band’s final show will be a headlining date at the Satellite on Friday night.
Random notes from recent show outings: New Child, the new project from Lucas Guerin (Casxio), sounded pretty good (allowing for the sound system) in their very first show at Lot 1 Cafe last week. … Try to catch the Eagle Rock Gospel Singers sometime. Really. … Caught Tennis System at the Bootleg – Swervedriver with strobe lights, loud and good. … Fonda’s comeback show Friday at the Echo was pretty grand, considering they’ve been away for seven or eight years. That night was Club Underground’s swan song at the Echo, by the way – Underground takes its Friday night sonic nourishment to the Grand Star in Chinatown next week. … Obvious from her recent show at the Troubadour that Magnolia Memoir siren Mela Lee is pretty full of herself, but that’s what makes her spiky lounge stylings worth a listen. … Junip’s show Friday night was in the theater space (rather that the usual stage erected in the lobby) at the Bootleg Theater, which made for a nice vibe. Look for more shows there, when theatrical production schedules allow for them.
