Video premiere: Soft Swells, ‘Every Little Thing’

by kevin on August 18, 2011

“Every Little Thing,” the first single from Soft Swells, is a tight, tuneful day-brightener that bleeds optimism with every echoing chord, percussive jab and twinkling key. Funny, then, that the Mike Berlucchi-directed video for the song counterposes its sunny disposition against the overheated despair of the Salton Sea, but the desert does breed its own kind of hope. And who couldn’t use some reassurances that “Every little thing’s / gonna be all right / Every little wound’s / gonna heal up tight”? The song, now available as a 7-inch (b/w “Lifeboats”) on Modern Outsider Records, is the brainchild of Tim Williams, who released three fine solo albums on Dovecote Records before relocating to L.A. over a a year ago, and New York-based Matt Welsh of Phonograph. The duo recently returned from London, where they recorded their debut full-length with Dave Lynch with an eye on an early-2012 release.

Thanks Tim. Couldn’t find the credits when I wrote the item this morning, should’ve asked. Well done all around.
