Ears Wide Open: The Moor

0

Originally hailing from the East coast, the Moor have officially become Angelenos as they released their self-titled debut this week via Dilattante. Not unlike local bands such as Robotanists and Thurlow, the duo of Erica Daking and Josiah Steinbrick make lush, romantic sounds that sound sophisticated both in the headphones and to the heart. Daking’s vocals are what truly sparkle within the sensuous arrangements. Crisp yet sweet and reminiscent of Lucky Soul’s Ali Howard, Daking’s tone evokes a cool and hypnotic mood in songs such as “Warm Winter.” Almost touching on Brit-pop twee, the Moor’s record also boasts a few contributions from a handful of familiar names. Since Steinbrick is also skilled in sound and stage, touches from buddies Josh Klinghoffer and Noah Georgeson, to name a couple, can also be heard. Our advice? Just let it go down smooth and enjoy.
