Video: Hanni El Khatib, ‘Come Alive’

Hanni El Khatib’s scorched-earth take on vintage garage rock and blues is all about rage and danger – he claims his music is inspired by knife fights and train wrecks, after all – but the video for the song “Come Alive” takes the subversive, wry route. It was directed by Simon Cahn and Ricky Saiz and shot by Wyatt Troll, who’s done videos for the White Stripes, Patti Smith, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Ben Harper, among others. The piece trails El Khatib and a young, not-so-grim reaper on a little rampage. That’s the Shamrock Social Club’s Mark Mahoney, getting a cameo. Khatib, whose July set at the Hammer Museum is still fresh in our minds, releases his debut album “Will the Guns Come Out” on Sept. 27.
