Video: Dawes, ‘Time Spent in Los Angeles’

The last time we talked with Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, he made it clear that the band felt most at home on the road. Yet “Time Spent in Los Angeles,” which opens their latest record “Nothing Is Wrong,” could be read as a tender love letter to their home turf. No matter how much the city may rough one up, Dawes paints the city with an endearing shade with lyrics such as “You’ve got that special kind of sadness / You’ve got that tragic set of charms.” In actuality, Goldsmith may be singing about a loved one instead of L.A., but when he starts the last verse out with “I used to think someone would love me for the places I’ve been,” then shortly follows it up with “but now I know what I’ve been missing,” there’s a sense of pride that wonderfully creeps in.
