Tokyo Police Club, “Kim & Jessie” ft. Jamie Jackson (of Hot As Sun) (M83 cover) – Tokyo Police Club recently partnered up with Polaroid for a project titled “10 Songs, 10 hours, 10 days, 10 years” where they cover a single from the last 10 years in 10 days. For their choice of song from the year 2008, they called upon Jamie Jackson of Hot As Sun to lend some vocals for their upbeat and ultra-sweet rendition of M83’s “Kim & Jessie.” You can listen to the nine other covers here on Polaroid’s Facebook page.
Alessi’s Ark, “Maybe I Know” (Lesley Gore cover) – Alessi Laurent-Marke, who performs under the moniker Alessi’s Ark, was just in town when she toured with Laura Marling. However, the British folk songstress, who demurely performed eclectic acoustic tunes about birds, landscapes and robots from her latest record, “Time Travel,” seems to sing with much more attitude on this cover of Lesley Gore’s “Maybe I Know.”
Chelsea Wolfe, “I Let Love In” (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cover) – It makes sense for pop noir artist Chelsea Wolfe to cover something by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Although the song has enough of a gothic foundation, Wolfe gives Cave’s “I Let Love In” a swarthier tone by enveloping it in heavy reverb and gloom.
