Premiere: Two Guns, ‘Happening’

2

Two Guns are back, and if not with both barrels blazing then with both aimed true. The Long Beach quintet, whom we introduced way back in Buzz Bands LA’s infancy, next week releases its sophomore album “Far People in Far Places,” made with producer/engineer Matt Wignall (Cold War Kids, Mando Diao, the Fling, Deep Sea Diver). The band – singer-guitarists Kevin Poush and Brad Lindsay, keyboardist Aaron Bradford, bassist-vocalist Harris Pittman and drummer Gabe Palmer – minds its blue-collar sensibilities on its self-released collection: The crunch of early Wilco is present here, along with the shimmer of the British-invasion bands of ’90s, an echo of Elvis Costello and that strain of psych-pop that seems native to SoCal bands. It’s the kind of heartfelt rock that makes you want to roll up your sleeves, just as Poush and gang must’ve when they made it.
