Video: Future Islands, ‘Give Us the Wind’

Future Islands‘ set at FYF Fest was one of the most memorable of the afternoon, and with good reason. With a profound romanticism that parallels their high energy, the Baltimore synth-pop band has one of the most highly regarded albums of the year. “On the Water” (out now via Thrill Jockey Records) is roller-coaster of emotions and colors, and whether Samuel Herring’s almost Shakespearean croon inspires you to dance or mope, you will not depart untouched. All that and more is conveyed in their simple yet dramatic Mike Anderson-directed black-and-white video for “Give Us the Wind.” Reminiscent of old Friend pop videos from the ’70s, it’s a classic take on the forlorn theme in pop music.

This is so unique and beautiful – I know I would have loved the show.
